Release InformationToad® for Oracle v9.7A new release of Toad for Oracle is now available. For a full list of new features and bug fixes, please see the release notes.
New Features in Toad for Oracle 9.7:
All Editions: - Getting-started Videos – Useful video clips show the “Top Things You Should Know” for developers and DBAs – videos reduce the Toad learning curve and allow you to take advantage of the most useful features
- Action Recall Enhancements – Save the steps you take in Toad – like a macro – and replay or schedule to run whenever you want, or even distribute to others; new AppDesigner window makes it much easier to create an automation workflow based on multiple saved actions to generate an entire process
- Subversion VCS Support – Complete support for the Subversion version control system
- Parser Enhancements – Toad 9.7 now supports full parsing of Oracle 11g
Toad for Oracle Professional Edition, Toad for Oracle Xpert Edition, Toad Development Suite and Toad DBA Suite:- Data Generation – Allows you to easily create multiple rows of data, for one or more Oracle tables for development and test environments, where it is not possible to obtain data from production
- Code Xpert Enhancements – A “Top 20” rule list helps define which Code Xpert rules to run when you want to do a quick code quality check – compiled by Quest experts: Steven Feuerstein and Bert Scalzo – its dashboard reports can be e-mailed to others in the business
Toad DBA Suite for Oracle and Toad DB Admin Module:- Database Browser Enhancements – As an extension to Database Browser enhancements in Toad for Oracle 9.6 further improvements make the Database Browser the main console for DBAs to expose many common DBA tasks without having to navigate Toad menus
- StatsPack and AWR Advisories – Offer useful insight into potential performance and configuration issues in your database – advisories indicate specific problems and provide simple advice to be taken to correct the problem
- Schema Compare and Sync Enhancements – Now more powerful through the use of very efficient schema “snapshots” that reduce the time it takes to perform a complex compare down to seconds
- Trace File Browser – Presents Oracle trace file information in a simpler way to help you interpret them and pinpoint the root cause of a performance-related problem (Trace files can be loaded into Benchmark Factory for workload replay testing – see below)
- RMAN Script Templates – Provides basic out-of-the-box backup scripts so you can simply select them from the Database Browser, open in the Editor Window and execute on the database server – eliminating the time-consuming and error-prone process of manually creating scripts
Toad Development Suite for Oracle and Toad DBA Suite for Oracle: - Benchmark Factory Integration – Oracle Trace Files can now be “pushed” to Benchmark Factory in order to initiate a workload replay test – can be performed from the Trace File Browser or TKProf Interface windows
New Features in Toad for Oracle 9.6: - Toad for Oracle bundle configuration changes - The Toad for Oracle base edition now includes the PL/SQL and SQL script debugger; also includes Knowledge Xpert for PL/SQL and Knowledge Xpert for Oracle Administration; Toad for Oracle Professional edition now includes Oracle Import/Export Utility Wizards (Formerly only available in Toad DBA Module); Toad DBA Module has been renamed Toad DB Admin Module
- Improved setup wizard and improved customization - The initial setup includes the ability to save key settings, instead of using the main Options window (such as the Toad startup window and Schema Browser style – including tabs, tree view, etc). You can also customize many toolbars and menus simply and quickly and even revert back to the original settings if you so wish.
- Database Browser redesign - The new Database Browser allows you to navigate through multiple instances. It also includes added nodes for database and schema-level objects for deeper browsing using an embedded Schema Browser.
- Database Health Check updates - The Database Health Check, included in the Toad DB Admin Module (formerly DBA Module), now includes 23 checks for database security and vulnerability.
- Editor: Code Insight updates - Updates have been made to the Toad for Oracle Editor, allowing you to perform “dot” lookups for multiple object types. This includes tables, views, aliases, functions and many more – across multiple schemas.
- PL/SQL Profiler updates - The Toad for Oracle PL/SQL Profiler now provides better interaction between the Analysis and the Editor windows. Selecting a detail line in the analysis window opens the PL/SQL code in the Editor automatically and highlights the correct line.
- Integration with Quest Code Tester for Oracle - If test cases have already been created in Quest Code Tester for Oracle, they can be run from Toad’s Schema Browser or Editor, with the test results displayed in Toad. This enhancement also gives you greater workflow when using the Toad Development Suite for Oracle.
- Integration with Toad Data Modeler - When objects are saved in Toad’s ER Diagram window, they can now be automatically reverse engineered into Toad Data Modeler as a physical model. You can also open Toad’s Project Manager and Object Palette from within Toad Data Modeler. This functionality enables you to work more efficiently when using the Toad DBA Suite for Oracle.
- New AWR Browser - You can now browse Oracle’s AWR (Automatic Workload Repository) data just like the existing Statspack Browser. (NOTE: Use of the AWR Browser requires the OEM Diagnostics Pack).
- Additional support for Oracle 11g - A new tab called “Flashback Archive” has been added to the Schema Browser. Some existing windows now support Flashback Archive. These include Table Scripts, Schema Compare and Create/Alter Table.
